Lotus is now making waves in the electric vehicle (EV) market with its Emeya hyper GT. The Emeya, a four-door marvel, boasts impressive acceleration, clocking 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in under 2.8 seconds. This speed demon has not only captivated automotive enthusiasts with its performance but has also set a new standard in charging efficiency.
The Emeya’s charging prowess was recently put to the test, and the results are astonishing. During a charging session, the Emeya went from 10 to 80% battery capacity in just 14 minutes, utilizing a 400 kW DC fast charger. Lotus claims this as a record-breaking achievement, a statement validated by global consulting firm P3. According to Lotus, the Emeya reached a peak charging power of 402 kW, with an average of 331 kW during the 10-80% charging span.
Lotus Group CEO Qingfeng Feng expressed the company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of EV performance, stating, “With our industry-leading charging technology available today, Emeya pushes the boundaries for how an EV performs, providing drivers with the confidence to travel anywhere. We’re bringing an unrivaled driving experience in the ultimate grand tourer package, so drivers want to go electric.”
The Emeya’s charging capabilities not only set it apart from other EVs but also bring EVs closer to matching the convenience of traditional gas stations. Lotus’s focus on charging technology is further highlighted by its recent announcement of a line of liquid-cooled EV chargers, including a 450 kW DC fast charger.
In a strategic move to enhance its EV ecosystem, Lotus has partnered with Nio, a prominent Chinese EV manufacturer, to collaborate on battery swapping and charging technologies. This partnership aims to establish common battery standards and advance charging and exchange technologies for EVs.
Looking ahead, Lotus is gearing up to introduce its latest creation, the Type 135 battery-electric sports car. Priced around $95,000, the Type 135 is set to rival the electric Porsche Cayman and Boxster twins. Built on Lotus’s new Lightweight Electric Vehicle Architecture (LEVA), the Type 135 promises high configurability and will serve as the foundation for future models.
