California’s Long Beach Transit (LBT) has placed an order for 30 battery-electric Xcelsior CHARGE NG buses from New Flyer, a subsidiary of NFI Group. The order, which marks a significant step in LBT’s shift toward an all-electric fleet by 2040, involves buses that are each 40 feet (approximately 12 meters) in length. While specific delivery dates and contract values have not been disclosed, the purchase is part of New Flyer’s growing order backlog for the third quarter of 2024.

New Flyer highlighted the importance of this order, noting that the Xcelsior CHARGE NG buses are also available in a 60-foot version (approximately 18 meters). “This order is a valuable addition to New Flyer’s robust backlog in Q3 2024,” the company stated.
