The first Mercedes-Benz eActros 300 semitrailer tractor in Germany has found its home with Logistik Schmitt. The official handover ceremony was conducted by Ronald Ott, Head of Sales Trucks at Mercedes-Benz and FUSO Germany, who presented the electric truck to Rainer Schmitt, Managing Partner of Logistik Schmitt.
Logistik Schmitt, a family-owned company headquartered in Bietigheim, Baden-Württemberg, is set to deploy the eActros 300 for transporting engines between its logistics plant in Germersheim and the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth, which lies just 25 kilometers away. The initial route will involve multi-shift operations, with plans to expand the service to include the engine plant in Mannheim at a later stage.
The logistics firm is demonstrating its commitment to sustainable transportation by incorporating a total of six eActros 300 semitrailer tractors into its fleet. Notably, the first eActros 300 semitrailer tractor was previously handed over to Dutch food logistics company Simon Loos in June 2023, marking a significant step in the rollout of this electric vehicle model. Official series production of the eActros 300 variant is scheduled to commence at the end of this year.
Ronald Ott highlighted Logistik Schmitt’s pivotal role in testing and refining the eActros since 2019, noting, “Logistics Schmitt has been an important partner for testing the eActros since 2019. From the first prototype to the electric articulated truck – Logistik Schmitt has supported the development steps of the e-truck with intensive tests. We are all the more pleased that the company is now including the eActros permanently into its fleet.”
Rainer Schmitt, Managing Partner of Logistik Schmitt, emphasized the performance and capabilities of the eActros in distribution transport, underscoring the role of Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ comprehensive electric vehicle consultation in their decision to integrate the semitrailer tractor variant into their operations.
However, for electric vehicles to operate successfully, the availability of charging infrastructure is paramount. Logistik Schmitt has been proactive in developing suitable charging stations at its locations and ensures access to charging points at the unloading areas at the Wörth plant.
The eActros 300 semitrailer tractor shares technology with the eActros 300/400 series, featuring a platform chassis that entered series production in 2021. Equipped with three battery packs, each offering 112 kWh of installed battery capacity, the eActros 300 boasts a range of up to 220 kilometers on a single battery charge. It can be rapidly charged with up to 160 kW, requiring just over an hour to reach an 80% charge level at a standard DC rapid charging station with a 400 A charging current. This innovative electric truck is setting the stage for a more sustainable future in logistics and transportation.
