Lexus has introduced an updated RZ lineup featuring improved range, faster charging, and increased motor output, along with its first steer-by-wire system and a new virtual manual gear shift system called Interactive Manual Drive.
The company says enhancements to the battery and powertrain have resulted in up to 20% greater driving range, with the all-wheel-drive variant achieving up to 500 km and the front-wheel-drive model extending to 575 km.

Charging times have also been reduced, while performance has been boosted through a high-output motor and an eAxle system for both front and rear wheels.
Lexus’ steer-by-wire system, set to debut in Europe following regulatory approval in early 2025, eliminates the mechanical steering column, transferring control to an onboard computer. Already seen in some U.S. EVs, including the Cybertruck, this technology allows drivers to adjust steering ratios based on speed for improved agility and stability. The brand aims to offer a “completely new driving experience” with smoother and more intuitive operation.

The RZ 550e F SPORT is a new addition to Lexus’ lineup, featuring more powerful front and rear motors that deliver a combined output of 300 kW.
It also debuts the Interactive Manual Drive system, which simulates an 8-speed manual gearbox, allowing drivers to control power delivery while replicating engine sounds to mimic traditional stick-shift driving.

Lexus has also introduced the RZ 350e, a 165 kW front-wheel-drive variant that prioritizes efficiency and offers the longest range in the lineup. The RZ 500e, with 280 kW and all-wheel drive, slots below the RZ 550e F SPORT in the performance hierarchy.
The refreshed RZ lineup is set for an autumn 2025 release, with a phased rollout across various markets. Lexus first launched the RZ two years ago as a sibling to Toyota’s bZ4X, which also received an update this week. Prices for the original RZ started at $59,650.
