Lincoln Electric, best known for its welding equipment, has expanded into the electric vehicle sector with the launch of the Velion, a portable 50 kW DC fast charger aimed at stranded drivers and fleet operators. The company presented the unit as a compact and durable mobile solution for delivering quick charging in remote or emergency situations.

The Velion is designed to help tow truck operators, construction fleets, and municipal agencies provide on-the-spot charging when vehicles cannot return to fixed charging infrastructure. The company compared the unit to carrying a red gas can for stranded drivers, except designed for electric cars.

“[Velion is] designed for flexible, mobile use,” said Bruce Chantry, Vice President of Electric Vehicle Solutions at Lincoln Electric. “Designed in collaboration with the market and leveraging decades of expertise in power electronics, our solution is engineered to provide the flexibility customers need today, with a future-ready design to meet the demands of tomorrow.”

Lincoln Electric added that the charger is “designed, engineered, and assembled in the United States with over 70% domestic content,” and confirmed that it complies with federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) and Build America, Buy America (BABA) requirements.

The company intends to market the Velion primarily to municipal fleets and state highway agencies. It also sees potential applications in construction sites, emergency response operations, and fixed fleet depots. Other uses could include auto dealerships, museums, and healthcare services requiring mobile charging options.
