Li Auto has moved a step closer to launching its new all-electric i9 sport utility vehicle after the model appeared in the latest vehicle filing published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
The filing includes two dual-motor variants of the Li i9, which is scheduled to officially go on sale in September. Li Auto founder, chairman and chief executive officer Li Xiang previously said the model would become the newest member of the company’s flagship 9-series SUV family.
Flagship Electric SUV Offers Six-Seat Layout
According to the regulatory documents, the Li i9 measures 5,225 millimeters in length, 1,970 mm in width and 1,752 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,168 mm.
The SUV features a six-seat configuration, continuing Li Auto’s focus on the premium large family vehicle segment.
The new model is larger than the company’s current flagship battery-electric SUV, the Li i8, which measures 5,085 millimeters in length and has a wheelbase of 3,050 mm.
The Li i9 is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. The front motor delivers up to 150 kilowatts, while the rear motor produces 250 kW, providing a combined system output of 400 kW. The vehicle has a listed top speed of 200 kilometers per hour.
Energy is supplied by a ternary lithium-ion battery using battery cells sourced from Sunwoda and CATL.
Depending on the configuration, the Li i9 has a curb weight of either 2,745 kilograms or 2,780 kilograms.
Multiple Technology Configurations Listed
The filing indicates that buyers will be able to choose from different wheel designs and exterior badging.
Regulatory documents also show optional side-mounted and rear-mounted LiDAR sensors, suggesting that different versions of the vehicle may offer varying levels of intelligent driving hardware.
The Li i9 will be manufactured at Li Auto’s production facilities in Beijing’s Shunyi District and in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province.
BEV Expansion Continues
The company has previously introduced the all-electric Mega multi-purpose vehicle, along with the Li i8 and Li i6 electric SUVs, as it broadens its lineup beyond its established extended-range electric vehicle models.
Li Auto has set a vehicle delivery growth target of 20% for 2026, implying annual deliveries of about 490,000 vehicles. The addition of the Li i9 is expected to play a key role in supporting that objective as the company strengthens its presence in China’s competitive premium battery-electric SUV market.
Vehicles included in MIIT’s public filing process typically move closer to commercial launch after completing regulatory approval, although Li Auto has already announced that the Li i9 is scheduled to enter the market in September.
