Li Auto has officially entered the Macau market with the opening of its first retail center in the city, marking a new milestone in the Chinese electric vehicle maker’s international expansion strategy.
The company partnered with Guangdong Hongyue Automobile Sales Group to establish the retail outlet. Guangdong Hongyue also serves as the exclusive general distributor for Nio in Macau.
The expansion represents Li Auto’s first entry into the Hong Kong and Macau market, with the company positioning Macau as a gateway to the broader Asia-Pacific region.
First Retail Center Opens
The new retail center allows customers in Macau to experience the Li i6 and Li i8 battery electric sport utility vehicles (SUVs).
Li Auto said the facility provides vehicle sales, deliveries and after-sales services while offering customers an ownership experience consistent with that available in mainland China.
Localized Products for Macau
To comply with Macau’s regulations governing vehicle glass light transmittance, Li Auto collaborated with automotive glass manufacturer Fuyao Glass to develop a double-layer laminated non-privacy glass solution.
According to the company, the new glazing meets local regulatory requirements while maintaining cabin quietness, safety and thermal insulation performance.
Enhanced Cross-Border Connectivity
Li Auto has also localized several digital services for customers who regularly travel between Macau, Hong Kong and mainland China.
The company said its navigation platform now provides seamless route guidance across all three regions, while selected models support dual-SIM connectivity to improve cross-border communications.
The international version of Li Auto’s intelligent cockpit system also supports localized applications, including Apple CarPlay and Spotify.
The company added that it is working with industry partners to further develop connected vehicle services for cross-border users.
Broader International Expansion
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Jaffy Xiao, head of marketing for Li Auto’s international business, described Macau as the company’s starting point for expansion across the Asia-Pacific region.
She said the launch would allow more customers in the Greater Bay Area to experience Li Auto’s latest products, technologies and services.
Li Auto has adopted a measured approach to international growth, prioritizing long-term operational capability and customer service rather than rapid sales expansion.
Earlier this year, company President Ma Donghui said Li Auto selects different overseas business models—including wholly owned subsidiaries, dealership partnerships and exclusive distributors—based on local market conditions.
