Li Auto is making waves in the automotive industry with its plans to launch a beta testing program for its advanced assisted driving feature, similar to Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD).
This will make the company one of the first local car manufacturers to offer this technology. The announcement was made at the launch of the new Li L7 SUV.
The beta testing of the feature, called City NOA (Navigate on Autopilot), will begin in the fourth quarter of this year for vehicles equipped with AD Max, Li Auto’s in-house developed intelligent driving system.
The AD Max system is the assisted driving feature found in the Max versions of Li Auto vehicles, which are equipped with two NVIDIA Orin X smart driving chips and a LiDAR.
Li Auto’s vehicle lineup currently consists of Air, Pro, and Max versions. The Air version was introduced at the launch of the Li L7 and Li L8, while the company’s flagship SUV, the Li L9, is only available in the Max version. The Pro version features the AD Pro assisted driving system, the first to be equipped with the Journey 5 chip from local chipmaker Horizon Robotics.
City NOA is based on HDMapNet’s real-time road structure awareness algorithm, which can sense and make decisions in real-time based on the surrounding environment, just like a human.
This approach allows the assisted driving system to be less dependent on high-precision maps, which will be crucial for the future expansion of City NOA and eventually, fully autonomous driving. According to Li Auto, this technology path will be the key to the rapid growth of City NOA.
