Lexus has unveiled the eighth-generation ES sedan in the United States, introducing battery-electric variants for the first time in the model’s history as part of its broader electrification strategy.

The new ES lineup includes two fully electric versions, the Lexus ES 350e and Lexus ES 500e, both equipped with a 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery integrated into the vehicle floor. The front-wheel-drive ES 350e delivers 165 kW of power, while the all-wheel-drive ES 500e features dual motors with a combined output of 252 kW.

According to Lexus, the ES 350e offers an estimated driving range of up to 307 miles, while the ES 500e achieves up to 276 miles under U.S. EPA testing conditions. Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph is estimated at 7.4 seconds for the ES 350e and 5.1 seconds for the ES 500e.

Charging is supported via a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, with a Combined Charging System (CCS) adapter provided for compatibility. Under ideal conditions, DC fast charging from 10% to 80% can be completed in approximately 28 minutes at up to 150 kW, while AC charging at 11 kW takes around seven hours.

The new models are built on a multi-pathway platform that supports both electric and combustion drivetrains. “The multi-pathway vehicle platform shared by the ES 350e and ES 500e models is a first not only for ES but also the Lexus brand,” the company said.

A hybrid variant, the ES 350h, is expected to follow, using the same architecture.

The updated ES also introduces new digital features, including a 14-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch driver display running the latest Lexus Interface system, with over-the-air updates and wireless smartphone integration.

In terms of design, the model incorporates elements from the LF-ZC concept and features improved aerodynamics, with a drag coefficient of 0.25 for the electric variants. The vehicle is also larger than its predecessor, offering increased interior space.

Lexus said the ES 350e will arrive at U.S. dealerships in April with a starting price of $47,500. The electric ES models are also planned for launch in China and Europe.
