Leapmotor unveiled two new long-range battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants of its six-seat SUV, the C16, aimed at expanding its appeal among customers seeking extended driving range.
The new variants, priced at RMB 172,800 ($23,590) and RMB 189,800, boast a CLTC range of 580 kilometers, a 60-kilometer improvement over previous BEV options. Both models feature a larger 74.9 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, replacing the earlier 67.7 kWh pack. The higher-priced variant includes a 128-channel LiDAR for advanced driver assistance, while the lower-priced model excludes the component.
Originally launched on June 28, 2024, the C16 offers both extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and BEV options. The previous BEV variants started at RMB 161,800, RMB 168,800, and RMB 185,800, with a CLTC range of 520 kilometers. The newly launched BEVs reflect a 6.8 percent price increase but come with upgraded battery capacity and extended range.
The C16 measures 4,915 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, and 1,770 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,825 mm. All variants are single-motor, rear-wheel-drive models, with BEVs capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 6.37 seconds.
Leapmotor is offering incentives for customers who order and take delivery of the new BEV variants by January 31, including RMB 5,000 discounts, financing benefits, trade-in subsidies, and option subsidies totaling RMB 22,000.
Leapmotor delivered 42,517 vehicles in December, a 128.37 percent year-on-year increase. Total 2024 deliveries reached 293,724 units, a 103.76 percent growth, driven in part by strong C16 sales, which surpassed 7,000 units monthly from September to November.
