Leapmotor, a new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, experienced a drop in sales in February compared to the same month last year, despite an improvement from January’s poor performance. The company’s latest official figures reveal that they delivered 3,198 units in February, representing a 6.9% decrease from the 3,435 units delivered in February 2022. However, the numbers do show a promising increase from January’s dismal figures, with deliveries up by 180.77% from 1,139 units in the previous month.
Leapmotor, which was founded in 2015, currently offers several models for sale, including the T03 mini vehicle, the S01 coupe, the C11 flagship SUV, and the C01 flagship sedan. In 2022, the company delivered 111,168 units, an impressive increase of 157.80% from the previous year’s figures. Unfortunately, deliveries started to decline significantly in the fourth quarter of 2022, reaching an all-time low of 1,139 units in January 2023, similar to figures recorded in March 2021.

To reverse the decline in sales, Leapmotor announced plans to release extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) models targeting the plug-in hybrid market. Previously, all of the company’s models were battery electric vehicles (BEVs). On March 1, Leapmotor launched the C11 EREV, which is available in two battery pack options of 30.1 kWh and 43.74 kWh, offering a CLTC range of 180 km and 285 km on battery power, respectively. The vehicle is available in three versions, with prices starting at RMB 149,800 ($21,720), RMB 165,800, and RMB 185,800, respectively.
Leapmotor also unveiled the 2023 facelifts for the previously available BEVs, resulting in lower starting prices. The C11 BEV 2023 model is available in four versions, with prices ranging from RMB 155,800 to RMB 219,800, and CLTC ranges of 502 km, 650 km, and 580 km, respectively. The C01 sedan has also received an update, with five versions now offered at significantly reduced prices. Prices for the five versions of the C01 2023 start at RMB 149,800 and go up to RMB 228,800. The T03 model has been reduced by one version, with prices becoming much more affordable. The 2023 T03 is now available in four versions, with prices starting at RMB 59,900 and going up to RMB 89,900.
Overall, Leapmotor’s recent launch of EREV models and the reduced pricing for BEVs and other models signals a hopeful attempt to turn around the company’s sales decline. As the NEV market continues to grow and evolve, Leapmotor is positioning itself to remain competitive and meet consumer demands for more affordable and sustainable vehicles.
