Knight-Swift Transportation has become the first major American fleet to take delivery of a Kenworth T680E, a Class 8 battery-electric vehicle. The vehicle will operate at the Knight Port Services terminal in Southern California. The fleet collaborated with Inland Kenworth – Phoenix to procure and purchase a supporting Paccar 120 kW electric vehicle charging station for the T680E.
Designed for pickup and delivery, regional haul, and drayage applications, the T680E is available as a day cab tractor or straight truck. It boasts a 82,000-pound gross vehicle weight rating and an estimated operating range of 150 miles, depending on the specific application.
In addition to the T680E, Kenworth also offers the Class 7 K370E and Class 6 K270E battery-electric vehicles for pickup and delivery and short regional haul operations. These vehicles feature electric powertrains with high-density battery packs of 141 kWh, 209 kWh, and 282 kWh, providing ranges of up to 100, 150, and 200 miles, respectively.
Paccar Parts distributes electric vehicle charging stations for the entire range of Kenworth electric vehicles, with output power options ranging from 20 kW to 350 kW.
