Kia, the South Korean automaker, recently opened online reservations for its flagship EV9 electric SUV in Canada, and the response was nothing short of remarkable. Despite allocating just over 500 EV9 models, the electric SUV received “notably high” reservations, leading Kia to plan a relaunch of the program.
The EV9, Kia’s first three-row electric SUV, is expected to serve as a symbol of the company’s commitment to the new electric era. Introduced to the world in March, the EV9 boasts a range of features that cater to customers’ needs, including ample interior space for cargo and passengers, up to 5,000 lbs of towing capabilities, enhanced vehicle dynamics, and cutting-edge tech and software.

Built on Hyundai Motor Group’s 800V E-GMP platform, the same one powering the IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6, the EV9 incorporates fourth-gen battery tech and fast charging, enabling a charge from 10% to 80% in under 25 minutes.
With dimensions of up to 5,015 mm (197 in) in length, 1,780 mm (70 in) in height, and 1,980 mm (78 in) in width, the EV9 stands alongside the Ford Explorer in size. The exterior features Kia’s new dynamic design, highlighted by a fresh Tiger Face grill, replacing the familiar “Tiger Nose” grill.
Inside, the EV9 offers Kia’s most advanced interior yet, presenting a mobile living room experience. The next-gen ultramodern Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) operating system, executive seats for all passengers, and centrally mounted haptic switches for key infotainment features set a new standard for convenience and comfort. Optional features include a Digital Rearview Mirror, 14-speaker 708-watt Meridian Premium Audio, and LED lighting for the Kia logo on the steering wheel.

The EV9 also comes equipped with the latest in-vehicle software and connectivity technology, featuring Kia’s most advanced Highway Driving Pilot, onboard power generator abilities (through V2L), and OTA updates.
The demand for the EV9 in Kia’s home market was significant, with over 13,000 preorders gathered within just eight days of availability. During its first month on the market, Kia sold 1,334 EV9 models, nearly surpassing sales of the EV6 electric crossover. Impressively, over 50% of preorders came from new customers.
Following the successful launch in Korea, Kia expanded the EV9’s availability to Canada, where it received an overwhelming response. The Canadian offering includes a 99.8 kWh battery with a single motor configuration providing a targeted range of 298 miles (480 km). Alternatively, Kia offers a dual-motor 379 hp (283 kW) AWD configuration with up to 516 lb-ft of torque.
Due to the higher-than-anticipated website traffic and reservations requests, Kia temporarily paused the reservation program and plans to relaunch it. Those interested in reserving an EV9 are encouraged to stay informed through email, Kia.Ca, and the company’s social channels for updates.

Kia’s plans for the US market include launching the EV9 by the end of the year. The three-row electric SUV will be available in two powertrain options: a standard 76.1 kWh battery with a 215 hp (160 kW) motor and an optional 99.8 kWh battery with the aforementioned specifications.
Assembly of the EV9 will take place in Kia’s West Point, Georgia facility, marking the company’s first electric vehicle to be assembled in the US.
While Kia has not yet released official pricing, estimates suggest that the EV9 will start around $60,000 for the standard battery version, while the larger battery option could cost upwards of $70,000.
