Kia has launched the EV4 electric sedan in Canada, making it the country’s most affordable battery electric vehicle as it goes on sale with a starting price below C$40,000, undercutting rivals such as the Fiat 500e.

Priced from C$38,995, the EV4 becomes Kia’s lowest-cost dedicated EV in the Canadian market and marks the brand’s first global electric sedan. The model is part of Kia’s broader strategy to expand its lower-priced electric vehicle lineup, even as the company has delayed plans to introduce the EV4 in the United States.

Built on Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform, the EV4 is offered with two battery options: a 58.3 kWh standard-range battery and an 81.4 kWh long-range battery. Kia estimates a driving range of up to 552 kilometres on the larger battery. Both battery configurations power a 150 kW (201 hp) front-mounted electric motor, with all-wheel-drive availability planned for later in the model cycle.

The EV4 supports Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) and can recharge from 10% to 80% in about 28 minutes with the smaller battery, or around 31 minutes with the long-range pack under fast-charging conditions.

Inside, the EV4 features Kia’s connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) system, combining dual 12.3-inch displays for the driver and infotainment with a 5-inch climate control screen, alongside wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The sedan is also the first Kia model to introduce i-Pedal 3.0, offering adjustable regenerative braking and memory retention for driver settings.

The EV4 is available in five trim levels in Canada, ranging from the Light FWD Standard Range to GT-Line Limited Long Range, with the all-wheel-drive variant expected to arrive later in 2026. Standard safety and driver assistance features include Kia’s advanced driver-assistance systems, with Highway Driving Assist 2 offered on higher trims.

While the EV4 rollout strengthens Kia’s presence in Canada’s growing EV market, the company has said the model’s U.S. introduction has been postponed, citing policy and tariff-related challenges.
