There are three finalists in all six award categories and electric vehicles have dominated this year’s competition.
While the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the favourite, the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Kia EV6 have also impressed reviewers, so it’s still unclear which one will take the top honors.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 was also nominated for the World Electric Vehicle of the Year. However, in that category, you have to compete with the Audi e-tron GT and Mercedes EQS. They become the fierce rivals of the Ioniq 5 because they combine an electric powertrain with luxury, performance and technology.
In the World Luxury Car EV category also dominates the award nominations. Mercedes EQS entered as a finalist and had to fight the BMW iX and Genesis GV70.
In the World Performance Car category, the finalists were the Audi e-tron GT, BMW M3/M4, and Toyota GR86/Subaru BRZ.
The World Car Design of the Year was also dominated by electric vehicles with finalists Audi e-tron GT, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6.
Lastly, is the World Urban Car category with the finalists being the Opel Mokka, Toyota Yaris Cross, and Volkswagen Taigun.
