Kia has secured the highest level of support available under the UK Government’s Electric Car Grant (ECG) scheme for selected variants of its EV4 electric vehicle after a reassessment of the model’s environmental credentials.

The decision upgrades several EV4 variants from the lower Band 2 category to the £3,750 Band 1 grant, reducing purchase prices for eligible customers and strengthening the model’s competitiveness in the UK electric vehicle market.

EV4 Moves to Top Grant Category

Following a review by UK authorities, the EV4 ‘Air’ Standard Range, EV4 ‘Air’ Long Range and the newly introduced EV4 ‘Motion’ now qualify for the maximum Band 1 Electric Car Grant.

The models had previously been classified under Band 2 support when the grant eligibility list was announced in December 2025.

According to Kia, the revised classification was approved after the company submitted additional evidence regarding the environmental sustainability of the battery supply chain used in the EV4. The reassessment specifically considered the European-produced battery fitted to the vehicle.

Lower Entry Prices for EV4 Buyers

The grant reduces the starting price of the EV4 ‘Air’ Standard Range to £30,995 on-the-road. The model is equipped with a 58.3 kWh battery pack.

The EV4 ‘Air’ Long Range, which features an 81.4 kWh battery, now starts from £33,245 including the government incentive.

“Kia is proud to announce the EV4 as its first model that qualifies for the maximum Band 1 Electric Car Grant,” the company said.

Kia added that the incentive lowers the vehicle’s on-the-road price by £3,750.

New EV4 Motion Trim Introduced

Alongside the grant upgrade, Kia has launched a new EV4 ‘Motion’ trim positioned between the ‘GT-Line’ and ‘GT-Line S’ variants.

The new version also qualifies for the Band 1 grant and is priced from £36,745 on-the-road after applying the incentive.

The EV4 Motion is powered by a 201 bhp front-mounted electric motor paired with an 81.4 kWh battery pack. It is available exclusively as a five-door hatchback and will not be offered in the EV4 Fastback body style.

Production of the EV4 takes place at Kia’s manufacturing facility in Žilina, Slovakia.

GT-Line Variants Remain Outside Band 1

While the Air and Motion variants now qualify for the highest level of government support, the higher-specification GT-Line and GT-Line S versions remain outside the Band 1 category.

However, Kia said customers purchasing those variants can still benefit from existing retail incentives, including 3.9% APR finance offers and a £3,000 finance deposit contribution.

Additional EV3 Models Gain Grant Eligibility

Kia also confirmed that additional variants of the EV3 electric SUV have become eligible for support under the Electric Car Grant scheme.

The EV3 ‘Air’ and ‘GT-Line’ models now qualify for the £1,500 Band 2 grant, reducing the entry price of the EV3 range to £31,555 including the incentive.

The latest changes further expand Kia’s participation in the UK government’s EV support program as automakers seek to make electric vehicles more accessible to consumers while meeting increasingly stringent environmental requirements.
