This organization has actually started looking for the right electric vehicle for them since almost three years. Finally, they decided to use the Kia e-Niro as an official vehicle to pick up non-emergency patients.
“We are constantly evaluating the available electric vehicle offerings, which change and improve with new products being launched year after year. These vehicles have an excellent range and the manufacturer is very well established in this area of technology,” said Steve Farnsworth, Assistant Director of Operational Support. EMAS is quoted from the official statement of KIA.
In total there are 16 KIA e-Niro units operated by EMAS in the initial phase. This electric car is plotted as a replacement for the diesel car which has been their ambulance.
EMAS said that the use of the KIA e-Niro electric car as their official vehicle did not hinder the fast pace of work. Because e-Niro is able to travel as far as 280 miles on a full charge, and they only travel an average of about 90 miles a day.
“This car is capable of traveling up to 282 miles when fully charged and our Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service (NEPTS) vehicles complete an average of 90 miles per day, which means one charge lasts a day without needing to charge again.” Steve Farnsworth, Assistant Director of Operational Support for EMAS.
It should be noted that the KIA e-Niro carries a lithium-ion polymer battery with a capacity of 64.8 kWh. KIA claims, this battery can take the car up to 285 km on a single full charge.
The KIA e-Niro also uses an electric motor with 201 HP and 255 Nm of torque. It is claimed, this car can go from 0 to 100 km / h in just 7.8 seconds.
In the European market, KIA sells several electric car models besides the e-Niro, namely the EV6 and Soul EV. But for the e-Niro itself, KIA Europe sells this car at a price of 34,995 pounds.
