Kia is preparing to introduce a high-performance version of its midsize electric SUV, the EV5, with the GT variant expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2026. The upcoming model will follow the standard EV5’s global launch, which began in China and is set to expand to Europe, North America, South Korea, and other regions in the coming months.

The EV5 has already made a notable impact in China since its market debut in 2023, helping Kia achieve its first quarterly profit in the country in eight years. This recovery came despite heightened competition from domestic electric vehicle manufacturers and an intensifying price war in the region.

According to The Korean Car Blog, Kia has confirmed that the EV5 GT will be added to the lineup early next year. The GT variant is expected to follow the performance-oriented path of other Kia electric vehicles, such as the EV6 GT and EV9 GT. While official specifications have yet to be released, projections suggest the EV5 GT will feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system with over 600 horsepower and 770 Nm of torque, offering acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in around 3.5 seconds.

The model is also likely to adopt advanced features from the Hyundai Motor Group’s high-performance EVs, such as a virtual gear shift system, launch control, and drift optimization technology. In addition, the EV5 GT will receive distinctive styling updates including revised bumpers, new lighting elements, and GT-specific badging.
