Kia America has reached a significant milestone in the electric vehicle (EV) market, selling over 7,000 EVs in May. This achievement marks a notable increase in EV sales for the automaker.
In total, Kia America sold 75,156 vehicles in the United States in May, reflecting a 5.1% year-over-year increase.
The surge in EV sales was driven by the strong performance of Kia’s all-electric models, including the EV6, EV9, and Niro EV. The EV6 saw a 19% increase in sales from the previous month, with 2,660 units sold.
The EV9 also performed well, setting a new record with 2,187 units sold. While specific sales figures for the Niro EV were not reported separately, estimates suggest it reached 2,350 units, marking a significant 152% year-over-year increase.
Year-to-date, Kia has sold 23,654 all-electric cars in the U.S., including over 16,500 E-GMP-based models in the EV6 and EV9. This represents a doubling of sales compared to the same period last year, indicating growing consumer interest in Kia’s expanding EV lineup.
Kia’s commitment to electric mobility is further demonstrated by the recent introduction of the Kia EV3 model and the start of local production of the Kia EV9 model in West Point, Georgia. By 2025, Kia aims to secure the full $7,500 federal tax credit for the EV9 model, making it more appealing to consumers.
