Finnish charging equipment maker Kempower and French charging station operator Sowatt Solutions have commissioned France’s first Kempower Mega Satellite CCS charger, capable of delivering up to 560 kilowatts, marking a step forward in high-power charging infrastructure for electric trucks.

The charging site, located in Vougy along the Mont-Blanc route near the French-Italian border, is designed primarily for heavy-duty electric vehicles and is complemented by three additional fast chargers offering up to 300 kW each for electric cars.

Kempower said the installation uses its Mega Satellite system, which can be configured either with a megawatt charging system (MCS) connector delivering up to 1.2 megawatts, or with up to two CCS connectors, each capable of providing up to 560 kW. In Vougy, Sowatt opted for a CCS-only configuration, commissioning one Mega Satellite charger with a single high-power CCS outlet.

“Commissioning the first Kempower Mega Satellite in France is a major achievement for the region,” said Pierre Gau, Kempower’s sales director for Western Europe. He said the site reflects the growing demand for scalable, high-power charging solutions for both commercial fleets and private users.

The Vougy hub also includes three standard Kempower Satellite chargers, each equipped with two CCS connectors and offering charging power of up to 300 kW, primarily intended for passenger electric vehicles. These chargers operate independently of the megawatt system.

Sowatt Solutions said the location was chosen for its strategic importance on a key freight and passenger corridor linking France and Italy, just before the Mont-Blanc Tunnel. “Partnering with Kempower enabled us to deliver cutting-edge charging performance in one of the most strategic corridors in Europe,” said Emilie Forster, director of Sowatt Solutions.

Kempower has been accepting orders for its megawatt-capable charging systems for around 18 months. Initial deployments using MCS connectors have already been rolled out in Norway, Denmark and Sweden, primarily for depot-based truck charging.

Financial details of the Vougy installation were not disclosed. Kempower said the project was supported by the French government under the France 2030 programme, with funding administered by the French Agency for Ecological Transition (ADEME).
