Finnish manufacturer Kempower is diversifying its portfolio by extending its expertise in electric vehicle (EV) charging to support the maritime industry. The company has entered into a strategic partnership with Aqua Superpower, a specialist in charging infrastructure for electric boats.
The collaboration aims to address the rising demand for charging stations for electric boats, particularly in large sites such as the Yacht Club de Monaco. Kempower’s satellite charging solution, known for its compact design, allows for the separation of the charging station and power technology, effectively utilizing limited space in harbors where space constraints are prevalent.
Referred to as Aqua 200 HPC by Aqua Superpower, Kempower’s satellite offers up to 200 kW charging power. The 10-meter charging cable, slightly longer than those for road-based EVs, ensures accessibility to boats’ charging ports. The Aqua 200 HPC is connected as a satellite to a power unit with an output of up to 600 kW, capable of supplying power to three satellites simultaneously.
While the partnership is not exclusive, Aqua Superpower plans to install a variety of charging solutions in Monaco, including the Aqua 75 DC model and Aqua Pods. The Aqua 75 DC, based on the technology of Australian manufacturer Tritium, has been optimized by Aqua Superpower for maritime use, taking into account factors such as salty and humid air. The Aqua Pod, an AC charging solution, is also part of the installation.
By incorporating Kempower’s unique charging columns, Aqua Superpower expands its portfolio to realize innovative charging systems that were previously not feasible with traditional hardware. The Yacht Club de Monaco has already embraced this approach by installing a combination of Aqua 75 DC, Aqua Pods, and Kempower solutions on a single pontoon.
Tomi Ristimäki, CEO of Kempower, expressed the company’s commitment to advancing emission-free transportation on both land and sea. Alex Bamberg, CEO of Aqua Superpower, highlighted the partnership’s ability to deliver resilient and high-power marine fast charging, meeting the diverse demands of commercial and leisure users at the Yacht Club de Monaco.
