Karsan has completed the delivery of 17 of its 12-metre e-ATA battery-electric buses to the Turkish city of Mersin, marking the conclusion of a project supported by the European Union’s IPA II programme, the company said.
Mersin, a Mediterranean port city with a population of more than one million, tendered the electric bus fleet as part of its cooperation with the EU to modernise public transport. Karsan secured the contract and has now handed over all vehicles to the municipality.

The supplied buses are part of Karsan’s e-ATA electric bus family and were configured specifically for local operating conditions. According to the manufacturer, the vehicles were “specially optimised considering the city’s climate, route structure, and operational conditions.”
Each 12-metre e-ATA is equipped with a 396 kWh battery and an electric motor delivering up to 250 kW of power. Karsan said the buses offer a driving range of up to 400 kilometres and can be recharged in approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. The vehicles are configured to carry up to 70 passengers.

The company added that the model is designed with a fully low-floor layout to improve accessibility and is intended to support quieter and lower-emission urban transport operations in the city.
The Mersin deployment adds to Karsan’s growing portfolio of electric bus projects across Europe and neighbouring regions, as municipalities increasingly turn to battery-electric fleets to meet climate and air-quality targets.
