FAW-Volkswagen’s Jetta brand has released the first official preview of the Jetta M6, marking the debut of the brand’s first all-electric sedan as it expands its presence in China’s fast-growing new energy vehicle (NEV) market.

The teaser includes official images and a promotional video showcasing the upcoming sedan ahead of its planned market launch later this year.

First Look at the Jetta M6

The preview reveals the Jetta M6 finished in a new “Oriental Purple” exterior colour, highlighting the model’s modern styling as the brand prepares to enter the battery-electric sedan segment.

Jetta also announced a marketing partnership with Chinese tea beverage chain ChaPanda, a move that reflects the company’s strategy of targeting younger consumers with its first electric sedan.

Electric Powertrain Options

The Jetta M6 previously appeared in filings published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), which listed four battery-electric variants.

According to the regulatory documents, the sedan measures 4,806mm in length, up to 1,895mm in width and 1,500mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820mm.

Two entry-level versions will be equipped with electric motors producing 113kW of peak power and offer a top speed of 166km/h, while two higher-specification variants will feature 145kW motors capable of reaching 172km/h.

Expanding Jetta’s EV Portfolio

The M6 follows FAW-Volkswagen’s previously announced development schedule, with the company stating earlier this year that Jetta’s first electric vehicle would make its public debut during the third quarter before entering the market in the fourth quarter.

The model forms part of a broader transformation of the Jetta brand, which established FAW Volkswagen Jetta Automotive Technology Co. Ltd. in Chengdu in January to strengthen its competitiveness in China’s rapidly expanding NEV sector.

Focus on Entry-Level EV Market

Jetta also unveiled a refreshed brand identity and new logo at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this year, where it introduced the rugged Jetta X concept vehicle.

The company plans to launch five new models by 2028, including four new energy vehicles, as it targets China’s entry-level EV segment with vehicles priced at around 100,000 yuan (approximately US$14,700).

Through its expanded product lineup, Jetta aims to achieve annual production and sales of between 400,000 and 500,000 vehicles over the medium term, reinforcing its role within FAW-Volkswagen’s electrification strategy in China.
