Volkswagen Anhui has filed the ID. UNYX 09 all-electric sedan with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), completing a key regulatory step before the model can be introduced to the Chinese market.
The model appeared in the latest batch of new vehicle filings released by the ministry on July 10. Volkswagen Anhui said on its social media channels that the ID. UNYX 09 is its first B-segment intelligent all-electric sedan and is scheduled to go on sale in the second half of the year.
Two Variants Listed in Regulatory Filing
The filing includes two versions of the ID. UNYX 09: a single-motor rear-wheel-drive model and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive model.
Both variants use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries with cells supplied by CATL, while battery pack assembly is carried out by Volkswagen Anhui Components.
The five-seat sedan measures 5,081 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width and 1,509 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,030 mm. Both versions have a listed top speed of 200 km/h.
The all-wheel-drive version has a curb weight of 2,307 kg and combines a 140-kW front motor with a 230-kW rear motor, producing a total output of 370 kW. The rear-wheel-drive variant weighs 2,207 kg and uses a single 230-kW rear motor. It is offered with either 20-inch or 21-inch wheels.
Second Model Developed Under Volkswagen-Xpeng Collaboration
The ID. UNYX 09 is the second vehicle developed under Volkswagen’s partnership with Xpeng.
The two companies announced their collaboration in July 2023, when Volkswagen invested $700 million in Xpeng and agreed to jointly develop two Volkswagen-branded electric vehicles using Xpeng’s G9 platform, connectivity technologies and advanced driver assistance software.
The first model from the partnership, the ID. UNYX 08 electric SUV, was launched in China in April with a starting price of 229,900 yuan.
Volkswagen said development of the ID. UNYX 08—from the signing of the joint development agreement to the start of mass production at its Hefei plant—took 24 months.
The SUV is equipped with two Turing AI chips supplied by Xpeng, providing up to 1,500 TOPS of computing power, and uses Xpeng’s second-generation Vision-Language-Action (VLA 2.0) intelligent driving system.
Volkswagen Anhui has not disclosed the intelligent driving specifications for the ID. UNYX 09.
Earlier this year, Xpeng Chairman and Chief Executive Officer He Xiaopeng said Volkswagen would become the first commercial customer for the company’s VLA 2.0 autonomous driving technology.
Volkswagen has also expanded the retail network for Volkswagen Anhui vehicles by allowing selected FAW-Volkswagen dealerships to sell the models through a “store-in-store” sales format.
