Jeep said the fully electric Jeep Avenger now qualifies for the UK government’s Electric Car Grant (ECG), lowering the starting price of the compact electric SUV by £1,500.

Following the incentive, the entry-level Jeep Avenger Full-Electric Longitude is now priced from £28,499 in the United Kingdom.

The grant also applies to the Altitude and Summit trims, which are now available from £30,499 and £32,499 respectively, according to the company.

Jeep said the Avenger Full-Electric offers a WLTP driving range of up to 248 miles and is equipped with an electric powertrain delivering 116 kW and 260 Nm of torque.

The company added that charging the battery from 20% to 80% can be completed in less than 30 minutes using a 100-kW DC fast charger. The vehicle also includes an 11-kW onboard charger for AC charging.

Kris Cholmondeley, Managing Director of Jeep UK, said the revised pricing improves the competitiveness of the electric version compared with petrol-powered alternatives.

“Now with the government’s electric car grant, the electric variant is cheaper on a PCP than its petrol equivalent and that’s before you factor in the savings on electricity versus petrol costs,” Cholmondeley said.

The UK government introduced the latest version of the Electric Car Grant programme in July with a total funding allocation of £650 million.

The scheme was later revised in August to tighten price eligibility requirements. Under the updated rules, higher trim levels no longer automatically qualify simply because a lower-priced base model falls within the threshold.

Before the Jeep Avenger became eligible for the government incentive, parent company Stellantis had been offering its own £3,750 customer discount on the model.

Industry speculation had previously suggested Stellantis products manufactured in Poland could face difficulties qualifying for the programme.

The Jeep Avenger is produced at Stellantis’ manufacturing facility in Tychy, Poland.

The model forms part of Stellantis’ broader electrification strategy in Europe as automakers compete for market share in the growing compact electric SUV segment.
