Japan’s MK Group has recently added 35 electric BMW vehicles to its taxi services in Tokyo and Kyoto. In Tokyo, the company is now using 20 BMW i7s, and in Kyoto, an additional 10 BMW i7s and 5 BMW iXs have been put into service.

The taxi operations in these two cities are run by different subsidiaries of the group – Kyoto MK and Tokyo MK. Kyoto MK has set a goal of having 30% of its entire taxi fleet be electric by 2025 and 100% by 2030.

In addition to the new electric BMWs, Kyoto MK already uses electric Mercedes-Benz EQCs and hybrid vehicles from Toyota and Lexus. MK Group was founded in Kyoto in 1960 and operates in various industries, including amusement shops, petrol stations, and sightseeing and school buses in Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, and Aichi.

The group’s taxi and rental car business has subsidiaries in 8 regions of Japan, and the fleet includes a total of 2,000 taxis, rental cars, and buses.
