JAC Motors, a Chinese electric truck manufacturer, has shipped 100 MD electric trucks (cab and chassis) to a single customer in Mexico, marking a notable advancement in the company’s efforts to establish a presence in the North American market.

As the thirteenth-largest automotive market globally, Mexico offers a competitive environment where American vehicles often share the roads with international brands. The countryā€™s favorable labor rates have attracted various global car manufacturers, creating a market where vehicles sold in the U.S. and Europe face competition from Chinese brands.

This competitive landscape is particularly significant in Mexico’s electric vehicle (EV) sector, with companies like BYD and JAC looking to solidify their positions. “We call on all interested parties to share the best international practices to contribute to a better development of electromobility and bring its benefits to all Mexican cities,” said Shirley Wagner, president of Mexicoā€™s Electro Movilidad AsociaciĆ³n (EMA). This coalition includes companies such as Kia, Volvo, Tesla, JAC, and BYD, working toward reducing vehicular carbon emissions and aiming for a “100% electric” target by 2035. Wagner highlighted the importance of collaboration in achieving cleaner air in Mexico.

JAC Motors entered the Mexican market in 2012 and has built a nationwide sales and service network, supporting this recent 100-unit order. The JAC N55 electric truck, included in this shipment, features a 96.7 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, providing a range of up to 125 miles (200 km). The truck can charge from 10% to 80% capacity in approximately 20 minutes with a 150 kW DC fast charger. With a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 5,500 kg (approximately 12,125 lbs), the N55 competes with models such as the Chevy Brightdrop, Isuzu NRR EV, and Mullen Three, positioning JAC within the expanding electric commercial vehicle market.
