Isuzu Motors will provide its ERGA EV autonomous bus for demonstration tests in Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, from October 2025 to January 2026, the company said. The vehicle will make its world premiere as a reference exhibit at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, held at Tokyo Big Sight from October 30 to November 9.
The demonstration is part of a collaborative effort to advance digital transformation in regional transportation through autonomous mobility, involving Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa Chuo Kotsu, Mitsubishi Corporation, Aisan Technology, and A-Drive. Isuzu previously conducted Level 2 autonomous driving tests using an ERGA diesel bus along the same route in December 2024 and January 2025. Planned initiatives for the current fiscal year include switching to the ERGA EV autonomous bus, introducing nighttime operations, and implementing cashless fare payment.

The ERGA EV autonomous bus is based on Japan’s first large-sized full-flat battery-electric route bus and incorporates autonomous driving technology developed by Tier IV. It features multiple sensors, including eight LiDAR units, six millimetre-wave radars, and 11 cameras, alongside eight additional remote monitoring cameras. Vehicle integrated control technology coordinates these systems for autonomous operation.
The bus measures 10,740 mm in length, 2,485 mm in width, and 3,330 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 4,990 mm. It is powered by an alternating current induction motor delivering 250 kW of maximum output and 960 Nm of torque, supported by a 242 kWh lithium-ion battery with CHAdeMO fast-charging capability. The vehicle accommodates 68 passengers, including the driver, with 20 seats.
