Ionity, the European electric vehicle charging network, has inaugurated its largest UK charging hub at the DoubleTree by Hilton Dartford Bridge, installing 24 ultra-fast chargers capable of delivering up to 350 kW. The site is the first of six Hilton DoubleTree locations set to receive charging infrastructure, with a total of 104 public rapid chargers planned across multiple sites.
The additional locations include Newbury North, Coventry, M6 Junction 2 / M65 Junction, Bristol North, M4 / M5 Junction, Edinburgh Airport, and Glasgow Strathclyde, M8 Junction 7. Ionity has not provided a timeline for the installations. The initiative aligns with the UK government’s push for greater EV adoption, with a goal of having 80% of vehicles in the European Union powered by electricity by 2030.
“Partnering with IONITY is a huge step towards guaranteeing cutting-edge EV charging right across our DoubleTree by Hilton portfolio and opens up new revenue streams for us,” said Peter Stack, CEO of Klarent Hospitality, which owns the DoubleTree by Hilton brand. “It’s crucial for us to futureproof our hotels against both the evolving needs of travellers and hotel guests, and our short and long-term sustainability commitments; this agreement delivers both.”
Ionity, a joint venture between BMW, Ford Motor, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen Group, and Hyundai, uses 100% renewable energy to power its network. Andreas Atkins, Country Manager UK & Ireland at Ionity, said the expansion would enhance EV infrastructure for long-distance travel. “It’s essential for travellers all across the UK to have access to high-quality charging infrastructure if we’re going to keep accelerating the transition to electric mobility. The UK has been one of the most successful countries to do so over 2024,” he said. “Through partnerships like this that expand our ultra-rapid charging network, we can make long-distance EV travel more accessible, convenient, and reliable for all drivers—whether they are hotel guests, business travellers, or fleet operators.”
