Hyundai has streamlined the Kona Electric lineup for the 2026 model year, limiting the entry-level battery-powered crossover to a single SE trim with a Standard Range battery pack.

The 2026 Kona Electric SE features a 48.6-kilowatt-hour battery that provides 200 miles of EPA-rated range. Its electric motor generates 133 horsepower and 188 pound-feet of torque, with maximum charging power capped at 100 kilowatts, resulting in a 10-80% charge time of approximately 43 minutes.

Earlier versions of the Kona Electric were available in four trims—SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited—with an additional Long Range battery offering 64.8 kWh of capacity and an EPA-rated range of 261 miles. The larger battery models also included a more powerful 201-hp motor, though charging times were similar.

Hyundai said the 2026 Kona Electric is a carry-over model, and the SE trim will feature a larger console tray in the cabin along with standard vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, which requires a separate adapter. The company did not provide a reason for the reduction in trims and battery options.

Pricing for the 2026 model has not yet been announced. If it remains at the previous SE trim price of $34,470, the Kona Electric faces strong competition from other entry-level EVs.

The new Nissan Leaf starts at $31,485, offers a larger battery, 303 miles of range, and a faster 10-80% charging time of 35 minutes. The refreshed Chevrolet Bolt EV has also received updates, adding pressure on the Kona Electric in the affordable EV segment.
