Hyundai has launched a safety recall for approximately 40,000 Inster electric vehicles after identifying a defect in the model’s thermal management system that could, in rare cases, increase the risk of a vehicle fire.
The recall affects 40,045 vehicles worldwide, including around 14,610 units in Germany, according to Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), which has registered the campaign under recall reference 16829R.
Faulty Thermal Management Component Prompts Recall
The recall covers Hyundai Inster models manufactured between February 14, 2024, and April 14, 2026. Because the compact electric vehicle is produced in South Korea before being shipped to international markets, the affected vehicles are expected to include many recently delivered models.

According to Hyundai, the issue involves a potential internal defect in the central three-way valve of the vehicle’s thermal management system.
The defect could allow coolant to leak over time. If the coolant comes into contact with nearby electrical components, it could cause a short circuit that, in the worst-case scenario, may lead to a vehicle fire.
Hyundai said no injuries or property damage related to the defect have been reported.
The company will replace the affected three-way valve with an updated component at authorized service centers. Owners in Germany will be contacted directly after Hyundai receives vehicle owner information from the KBA.
The automaker advised affected customers to schedule a service appointment promptly and reference recall code 61D127 when booking repairs.
Recall Follows Updated Inster Lineup
The safety campaign comes only weeks after Hyundai introduced the 2027 model year of the Inster, expanding the range with the new Inster Lounge trim focused on design, comfort and urban driving.
The updated variant features a revised front fascia, a redesigned grille, exclusive 17-inch alloy wheels and a new Glow Mint exterior color.

Hyundai also added an optional efficiency package that combines a heat pump with battery preconditioning to improve performance in varying weather conditions.
The core specifications of the Inster remain unchanged, including a maximum WLTP driving range of up to 370 kilometres and a flexible interior layout designed to maximize cabin space in the compact electric vehicle segment.
