Germany’s small electric vehicle market is being led by Hyundai’s Inster, the carmaker’s most affordable EV, after strong demand helped the model become the country’s best-selling small electric car so far in 2025. The compact EV, launched in Europe in late 2024, has also emerged as one of the region’s more popular electric models, industry data show.

According to figures from JATO Dynamics, the Inster ranked as Europe’s 19th most popular EV in June, outselling several established competitors including the Dacia Spring, Hyundai Kona, and Toyota bZ4X.

In Germany, the vehicle has received additional recognition after winning the Golden Steering Wheel award for the best car priced under €25,000, issued by AUTO BILD and BILD am SONNTAG.

Hyundai said the achievement reflects growing consumer confidence in its electric lineup as the company expands its offerings in the region. “The recognition is proof that our vehicles are resonating with buyers across Europe,” the automaker said. The model was also named the 2025 World Electric Vehicle during the World Car Awards held in New York earlier this year.

Priced from €25,000 in Germany, the Inster offers a WLTP driving range of up to 370 km and can charge from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes. The interior includes dual 10.3-inch displays with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Hyundai plans to electrify all vehicles it sells in Europe by 2027, with new models such as the Ioniq 3 set to enter production in Hungary in 2026. The Inster, sold as the Casper Electric in South Korea, is available across Europe, Japan, and parts of Asia and the Middle East.
