A year into ownership, a Hyundai Ioniq 6 SE rear-wheel-drive (RWD) model has received a largely positive review from an EV owner who has driven the vehicle 3,500 miles, citing its strong efficiency, road-trip capability, and overall comfort.

The owner, known online as “The Ioniq Guy,” leased the vehicle for just over $300 per month and has documented his experience in a recent video. Despite relatively low mileage, he reported an average energy efficiency of 3.9 miles per kilowatt-hour—surpassing other EVs such as the Tesla Model 3 at 3.2 miles/kWh and the Chevrolet Blazer EV, which reportedly struggles to exceed 3.0.

He praised the Ioniq 6 RWD for its 360-mile EPA-rated range, quick DC fast charging capability (10% to 80% in under 20 minutes), and comfortable, quiet ride quality. He also described the rear-wheel-drive setup as more engaging to drive than Hyundai’s all-wheel-drive alternatives. Safety performance was highlighted through a personal incident in which the car was rear-ended at 20–30 mph; the occupant reported no injuries.

Battery health remained largely intact, with only a 0.7% loss in capacity after more than 3,500 miles. However, the owner acknowledged that limited mileage may not provide a comprehensive view of long-term degradation, which typically becomes more evident within the first 20,000 miles.

Some drawbacks were also noted, including a malfunctioning power charge door in cold weather and concerns over the 12-volt charging light staying on while parked—raising potential issues with the vehicle’s integrated charging control unit (ICCU), a known concern in Hyundai and Kia EV platforms. Interior materials, including bright plastics and door panel finishes, were also criticized for their quality and performance under direct sunlight.

Despite these issues, the overall assessment of the Ioniq 6 RWD remains favorable. While the vehicle software was described as adequate rather than exceptional, the reviewer concluded that the Ioniq 6 offers a compelling package for EV buyers prioritizing efficiency, comfort, and value.
