Hubject and Chargemap have announced an expansion of their partnership to introduce Plug & Charge functionality to Chargemap’s network, enabling more than 600,000 users across Europe to benefit from automatic vehicle authentication and payment. The integration will be based on the ISO 15118 standard and aims to further simplify the electric vehicle (EV) charging process.
The two companies already share a long-standing eRoaming partnership, allowing Chargemap Pass users—primarily based in France—to charge their EVs across various European networks. The new phase of the collaboration will build on this by incorporating Hubject’s Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), which enables secure, automated charging without the need for apps or RFID cards.
“This expanded collaboration with Chargemap marks a significant milestone in our ongoing partnership to simplify EV charging experiences across Europe,” said Christian Hahn, CEO of Hubject. “Chargemap has been a partner in our interchange network since 2018, with their extensive user community spanning multiple European countries. By enhancing our established eRoaming integration with advanced Plug & Charge technology, we’re establishing a new benchmark for convenience in eMobility.”
As part of the roll-out, Chargemap will adopt ISO 15118 and work closely with charge point operators to expand the availability of Plug & Charge-ready infrastructure. Initial features are expected to launch later this year, with a broader roll-out scheduled over the coming months.
“Plug & Charge makes charging simpler and more seamless – exactly what drivers expect, and what’s been at the core of Chargemap’s DNA from the very beginning,” said Yoann Nussbaumer, CEO of Chargemap. “That’s why we’re now putting real focus into helping bring this technology to the mainstream and make it accessible to as many EV drivers as possible.”
This latest move follows a series of collaborations by Hubject aimed at scaling its Plug & Charge capabilities, with recent agreements including partnerships with ChargeHub, Tritium, Allego, and Zemetric.
