BYD’s premium new energy vehicle brand, Fang Cheng Bao, has released the first official teaser of its upcoming Tai 9 full-size SUV, offering an early look at a model expected to become the brand’s flagship family-oriented vehicle.
The teaser video reveals the SUV’s side profile and signals that the official debut is approaching as Fang Cheng Bao continues to expand its product portfolio.
First Official Preview
The short teaser showcases the Tai 9’s silhouette, highlighting a boxy exterior design and floating roof that continues the styling language established by the Tai series.
Fang Cheng Bao Business Unit General Manager Xiong Tianbo said on Weibo that “it won’t be a long wait,” indicating the model is nearing its official unveiling.
The preview also suggests the Tai 9 will feature a noticeably larger body than existing models in the lineup.
Largest Tai Series Model
According to information widely circulating on Chinese social media, the Tai 9 will measure more than 5.3 metres in length and feature a wheelbase exceeding 3.1 metres, making it larger than the Bao 8 SUV.
The model is expected to be positioned as a full-size family SUV, with reports suggesting it will initially offer a six-seat cabin, although five-seat and seven-seat configurations could also become available.
Spy images published in China indicate the interior may feature a wide connected-screen layout, complemented by a fully digital instrument cluster and a head-up display.
Powertrain Yet to Be Confirmed
BYD has not officially disclosed technical specifications, but several reports suggest the Tai 9 could adopt the Bao 8’s plug-in hybrid powertrain, pairing a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with dual electric motors delivering a combined output of 550kW and 760Nm of torque.
Other industry reports indicate the SUV may instead use BYD’s fifth-generation DM-i plug-in hybrid all-wheel-drive system, which is expected to provide a combined driving range exceeding 2,300 kilometres with a full fuel tank and fully charged battery.
The vehicle is also expected to feature BYD’s DiSus-P Ultra intelligent hydraulic suspension system and a unibody platform.
Expanding Fang Cheng Bao’s SUV Range
The Tai 9 will broaden Fang Cheng Bao’s SUV portfolio by entering the full-size segment.
The brand’s existing Bao 5 and Bao 8 models are aimed at off-road enthusiasts, while the Tai 3 and Tai 7 target urban drivers and family buyers.
Xiong previously confirmed that both the Tai 9 and the Formula S sedan are scheduled to launch during the second half of the year, although he noted the vehicles were still undergoing final development and refinement.
Launched by BYD in 2023, Fang Cheng Bao is positioned between the company’s mass-market Dynasty and Ocean series and its ultra-premium Yangwang brand, focusing on distinctive new energy vehicles for both lifestyle and family-oriented customers.
