The Maextro S800 electric sedan, jointly developed by Huawei and state-owned automaker JAC, became China’s best-selling luxury sedan priced above 700,000 yuan ($100,000) in December, outselling established foreign rivals including Porsche, BMW and Mercedes-Maybach, according to industry data.

Sales figures from market tracker Haidaxing ECC showed that the Maextro S800 recorded 4,376 deliveries in December, up 104% from the previous month. That performance made it the top-selling model in China’s ultra-luxury sedan segment, ahead of the Porsche Panamera, which ranked second with 1,593 units sold during the same period.

Combined sales of the Panamera, the BMW 7 Series and the Maybach S-Class reached 4,140 units, meaning the Maextro S800 alone exceeded the total volume of the three imported competitors, Haidaxing ECC data showed. The BMW 7 Series and Maybach S-Class placed third and fourth in the segment, respectively.

The Maextro S800 entered the Chinese market in August 2025 with a starting price of 708,000 yuan, while the top-spec version is priced at 1.018 million yuan. Positioned at the upper end of the market, the model competes directly with both premium domestic offerings and long-established foreign luxury sedans.

Other Chinese brands posted significantly lower sales in the same category. BYD’s Yangwang U7 delivered 333 units in December, while Nio sold 185 units of its ET9 flagship sedan, underscoring the Maextro S800’s lead in the segment.

Analysts have attributed part of the model’s momentum to Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), which provides a nationwide sales and marketing network for vehicles developed in partnership with automakers.

On Dec. 16, Huawei and JAC marked the delivery of the 10,000th Maextro S800, which was handed over to martial artist and actor Jet Li. According to figures cited by CarNewsChina, cumulative deliveries of the model have since reached 11,453 units.
