GWM has completed a regulatory filing for an all-electric version of its flagship Wey V9X SUV, advancing plans to expand the model beyond its existing plug-in hybrid configuration.
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) included the battery-electric V9X in its latest batch of vehicle filings released on Friday. The filing follows GWM’s product roadmap announced in May, when the automaker said conventional hybrid and fully electric versions would join the V9X range later in the year.
Six-Seat SUV Uses Dual Electric Motors
The Wey V9X EV measures 5,299 mm long, 2,025 mm wide and 1,825 mm high, with a wheelbase of 3,150 mm.
The six-seat SUV uses the same long-wheelbase dimensions as the previously launched plug-in hybrid version.
Depending on specification, curb weight is listed at 2,805 kg or 2,840 kg, while gross vehicle weight reaches 3,390 kg.
The electric SUV is equipped with two drive motors producing peak outputs of 220 kW and 320 kW. Its top speed is rated at 220 km/h.
Svolt Battery Capacity And Range Not Yet Disclosed
The V9X EV uses a nickel-cobalt-manganese ternary lithium battery supplied by Svolt Energy, a battery manufacturer affiliated with GWM.
The regulatory filing does not disclose the battery’s capacity or the vehicle’s expected driving range.
The electric model will therefore complement rather than replace the existing plug-in hybrid V9X, which offers a combination of long electric range and extended total driving capability.
Plug-In Hybrid V9X Offers 1,700-Km Combined Range
GWM launched the Wey V9X on May 18, initially with three plug-in hybrid variants starting at 349,800 yuan ($51,510).
The PHEV version combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with GWM’s Hi4 hybrid system and an 800-volt high-voltage architecture.
It offers a claimed CLTC electric range of up to 470 km and a combined range of as much as 1,700 km.
GWM previously said the conventional hybrid and all-electric versions would be introduced later in 2026.
Wey Expands Global One S Flagship Range
The Wey V9X is the first production vehicle based on GWM’s Global One S platform, which underpins the company’s latest generation of premium SUVs.
GWM positions the V9X as an AI-focused luxury six-seat flagship. Standard equipment includes a closed dual-chamber air suspension system and large-angle rear-wheel steering.
The cabin features a dual-screen display setup and zero-gravity seats, reinforcing the model’s positioning toward the premium end of China’s SUV market.
GWM is expanding the Wey lineup as competition intensifies among premium SUVs in China. The automaker opened reservations last month for the Wey V8X, a five-seat SUV also based on the Global One S platform.
The V8X is positioned as a smart five-seat flagship with a greater emphasis on driving and handling.
The addition of the V9X EV will give GWM another fully electric offering in the premium SUV segment, although the company has yet to disclose its final battery specifications, driving range or launch price.
