The joint business aims to see annual production and sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) reach 1 million units by 2026, with both companies leveraging their respective strengths to build competitive products. Seres and Huawei will also advance the establishment of a joint innovation center.

Seres Group, previously known as Chongqing Sokon, is one of Huawei’s most important partners in the automotive sector. Huawei announced on April 20, 2021, that it would begin selling cars in its flagship stores, with the first model being the Seres SF5 SUV. In December 2021, Seres and Huawei launched a premium NEV brand called AITO, which has already released several models.

Huawei has partnerships with other automakers, including Changan Automobile and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group Corp (JAC). Changan recently announced the Avatr 11, its first model created together with Huawei and CATL. Deliveries of the Avatr 11 began in January, with cumulative deliveries exceeding 2,000 units as of February 5.

Rumors surfaced in February 2022 that Huawei would build cars directly with JAC, but the company later clarified that the project was a partnership similar to its collaboration with Seres.

The collaboration between Huawei and Seres Group represents a significant push into the automotive sector for the Chinese tech giant, and the joint business’s aggressive plans signal their intent to become major players in the NEV market.
