In a recent announcement, renowned tech company Huawei and electric car manufacturer Chery have revealed their joint venture in the form of a sophisticated electric sedan, officially named the Luxeed S7. This unveiling comes after a tantalizing glimpse provided by Huawei a few days ago, accompanied by news that the vehicle is set to make its market debut in the near future. The Luxeed S7 emerges as a striking coupe-like sedan that blends innovation and style in a co-production effort between the two companies.
The Luxeed S7, set to be unveiled this quarter, embodies the outcome of the collaboration between Huawei and Chery. The sedan, previously teased through a single official photo, has captured attention with its elegant and modern design. With this latest disclosure, the Luxeed S7’s technical details have been brought to light, providing insight into what this joint endeavor has to offer.
Built upon Chery’s E0X platform, which also serves as the foundation for upcoming Chery models, the Luxeed S7 will embrace a two-motor all-wheel-drive setup. This cutting-edge platform boasts an 800-volt battery sourced from CATL, delivering an impressive range of up to 700 kilometers.
Measuring 4.97 meters in length, 1.96 meters in width, and 1.47 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2.95 meters, the Luxeed S7 showcases its well-proportioned and sleek dimensions. Beneath its hood, the Luxeed S7 is powered by electric motors developed by Huawei. The single-engine variant boasts a formidable motor with a power output of up to 215 kW, while the all-wheel-drive version incorporates an additional drive source, delivering an output of up to 150 kW. This robust setup enables the Luxeed S7 to achieve a top speed of 210 km/h. As previously indicated, the vehicle’s battery technology is drawn from CATL, encompassing LFP, LMFP, and NMC variants, although specific details regarding energy content remain undisclosed.
Production of the Luxeed S7 is overseen by Chery, with Huawei’s involvement reflecting its commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation. The initial photo shared by Huawei CEO Richard Yu on Weibo displayed a captivating sedan featuring four doors, sleek headlights, a contoured bonnet, wide wheel arches, and discreet retractable door handles. An evident LiDAR sensor positioned on the roof marks the Luxeed S7’s embrace of advanced autonomous driving technologies.
Evolving into a futuristic marvel, the Luxeed S7 will integrate Huawei’s ADS 2.0 system, a sophisticated array comprising a LiDAR sensor, eleven HD cameras, 3-millimeter radar, and twelve ultrasonic radars. On the software front, the Luxeed S7 is poised to be one of the pioneering vehicles powered by Huawei’s recently completed HarmonyOS 4 operating system.
The partnership between Huawei and Chery was a relatively well-kept secret until now. Collaboratively with Changan’s Avatr, Nio, and CATL, Huawei is reputedly working on four novel models slated for release by 2025, under the banner of the CHN platform. This endeavor includes the utilization of CATL’s cell-to-pack battery technology. Additionally, in conjunction with Seres, Huawei has also launched the Aito brand, debuting its maiden M5 EV model in the Chinese market last year.
