Honda has confirmed it will discontinue the Prologue after the 2026 model year, bringing an end to its first mass-produced battery-electric vehicle developed for the North American market and concluding its electric vehicle collaboration with General Motors.
The decision was confirmed by the automaker in a statement to CarBuzz, which reported that sales of the Prologue will end following completion of the 2026 model year. Honda said existing owners will continue to receive service and support through its dealer network.
End of the GM Partnership
The Honda Prologue entered the U.S. market in March 2024 as the company’s first volume-production battery-electric vehicle for North America.
The model was developed through Honda’s partnership with General Motors and is built on GM’s Ultium electric vehicle platform and battery technology. Production takes place at General Motors’ Ramos Arizpe assembly plant in Mexico, which also manufactures the Chevrolet Equinox EV and Cadillac Optiq.
The Prologue’s discontinuation follows the gradual unwinding of Honda’s broader collaboration with General Motors on electric vehicle development.
Honda previously ended production of the Acura ZDX, another GM-based battery-electric model, in 2025. The two automakers have also abandoned plans to jointly develop affordable electric vehicles and earlier this year dissolved their fuel-cell joint venture.
Broader Electrification Strategy
The decision comes as Honda reshapes its electrification plans in North America.
Earlier this year, the company suspended several planned battery-electric vehicle programs, including the Honda 0 Series SUV, Honda 0 Series Sedan and the Acura RSX EV. Those models had been planned for production at Honda’s Ohio-based EV Hub using a dedicated electric vehicle platform.
With the Prologue leaving production, Honda will temporarily have no battery-electric passenger vehicle in its North American lineup.
Instead, the company has increased its emphasis on hybrid vehicles as part of its medium-term product strategy.
Honda has announced plans to introduce 15 new hybrid models globally by 2030 and intends to expand its hybrid lineup in North America, particularly in larger vehicle segments.
Sales Performance
Despite its relatively short production run, the Prologue became one of the higher-selling battery-electric vehicles in the United States.
Honda delivered more than 80,000 Prologue SUVs between the model’s launch in 2024 and the middle of 2026, according to available sales figures.
During the first half of 2026, however, Prologue sales declined 48% from the same period a year earlier, although the model remained among the country’s 10 best-selling battery-electric vehicles.
Honda dealers are expected to continue selling existing inventory after production ends. Industry reports indicate that approximately 100,000 vehicles remain in stock, with promotional lease offers currently being used to support remaining sales.
