Honda has officially introduced its first high-end electric SUV, the S7, in China, positioning it as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y and other premium electric vehicles.
The S7, launched under Honda’s joint venture with Dongfeng, starts at 259,900 yuan ($36,000) and offers a driving range of up to 650 km (404 miles) under China’s CLTC standard.

Honda describes the S7 as a breakthrough in its EV strategy for the world’s largest auto market. “The surge is about to break out,” Dongfeng-Honda said in a statement last month while teasing the model’s design.
The S7 features Honda’s new “H Mark” for its next-generation EV lineup, along with a light-up front logo, retractable door handles, and a foot-sensing electric tailgate.

The SUV is available in single-motor (RWD) and dual-motor (AWD) configurations. The RWD variant produces 268 hp (200 kW) and is equipped with an 89.8 kWh NMC battery, while the AWD model generates 469 hp (350 kW) and offers a range of 620 km (385 miles). The S7’s dimensions are similar to the Tesla Model Y, measuring 4,750 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and 1,625 mm in height.
Inside, the S7 features a dimming panoramic sunroof, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, and a premium BOSE sound system. The infotainment system includes a split 12.8-inch and 10.25-inch smart display, supported by Honda Connect 4.0 for AI-based voice assistance and multi-screen linking. Safety and driver assistance features are integrated through Honda Sensing 360+, which offers active cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a 360-degree panoramic imaging system.

Honda hopes the S7 will help revitalize its position in China’s competitive EV market, where local automakers have taken the lead. The model will compete closely with Tesla’s new Model Y RWD, which starts at 263,500 yuan ($36,200) and has a range of 593 km (368 miles) CLTC.
