Honda has confirmed that it will begin U.S. production of the Acura RSX EV in 2025, marking a significant development in the company’s electrification plans. The RSX EV will be the first vehicle to use Hondaās bespoke electric vehicle platform, built at the newly established EV Hub in Marysville, Ohio.
Additionally, the model will feature Hondaās new ASIMO operating system, which will allow for continuous over-the-air updates, enhancing the driving experience and providing a more personalized ownership journey.
The RSX EV brings back a beloved nameplate from Acuraās past. The original RSX was sold in North America in the early-to-mid-2000s and still holds a dedicated fan base, particularly among Honda Integra and Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) enthusiasts.
While the name RSX will be revived, the new EV will take the form of an SUV, which is a departure from the compact sporty vehicle it once represented. Mike Langel, assistant vice president of Acura National Sales, explained, “The nameplate pays homage to the Acura RSX with its coupe-like silhouette, but it truly represents a forward-looking approach to fun-to-drive performance. Our second all-electric SUV will solidify our EV credentials even as its ICE stablemates, the all-new ADX, RDX, MDX, TLX, and Integra continue to attract new buyers to the Acura brand.”
Hondaās 2025 outlook includes not only the production of the RSX EV but also the continuation of its hybrid and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle lines.
While Honda initially worked with General Motors on the Prologue and Acura ZDX, both built on GMās Ultium platform, the company has since shifted to developing its own in-house platform for future BEVs. This move marks Honda’s departure from GM for vehicle architecture, as the company aims to produce a fully self-sufficient line of electric vehicles.
The RSX EV, as the first model to utilize Hondaās new platform, represents a major step forward for both the company and its premium sub-brand. Acuraās focus on integrating the ASIMO OS into its vehicles signals a deeper commitment to technology and user experience. “Honda knows better than anyone about how to manage a battery, how to make it stable and so on,” said Hondaās European marketing director Andrea Carlucci
