Hesai Group said its AT128 lidar sensor will be used in the first production-ready Level 4 (L4) Robotaxi jointly developed by Didi Autonomous Driving and GAC Aion, with mass production slated for 2025 and deployment expected to begin the following year. The autonomous vehicle was unveiled at the 2025 GAC Tech Day, showcasing advances in sensor technology and full-stack autonomous integration.
The Robotaxi features four AT128 sensors, which form the core of its 360-degree perception system. The AT128 offers a high-resolution 1200×128 scan pattern and captures up to 1.53 million data points per second. It supports a detection range of up to 200 meters and a 120-degree field of view, which allows it to detect obstacles early and maintain situational awareness in complex environments. Hesai said this technology is essential for both urban navigation and highway scenarios.

“Supporting the L4 Robotaxi project is a milestone for us,” said David Li, Co-Founder and CEO of Hesai. “It demonstrates how cutting-edge lidar can be seamlessly integrated with autonomous driving systems to drive the future of transportation.”
The vehicle utilizes a total of 33 sensors in a heterogeneous sensor fusion architecture, combining camera, radar, and lidar inputs for real-time 360° awareness. This setup is designed to enhance redundancy and depth perception, key factors in enabling safe and reliable L4 autonomous driving.

The Robotaxi is a product of a long-term collaboration between GAC Aion and Didi Autonomous Driving, combining GAC Aion’s safety redundancy platform with Didi’s autonomous vehicle hardware and software stack. The project reflects both companies’ commitment to advancing the commercialization of high-level autonomous mobility solutions in China.
