Chinese LiDAR manufacturer Hesai Group has partnered with Niu Technologies to supply sensors for electric two-wheelers, marking a shift in the adoption of advanced driver assistance technologies into lower-cost mobility segments.

Hesai said its fully solid-state FTX blind-spot LiDAR will be integrated into Niu’s vehicles, starting with the newly launched NXT2 model. The system is designed to improve safety by enhancing perception in complex urban traffic environments.

The FTX sensor offers a wide field of view of 180°×140° and is capable of detecting pedestrians, vehicles, and other obstacles in various weather conditions. Hesai described the system as enabling “all-weather, high-definition perception capabilities,” effectively acting as a “super eye” for two-wheelers.

The partnership reflects a broader industry trend driven by falling LiDAR costs. Hesai said advances in chip integration and mass production have reduced sensor prices from hundreds of thousands of yuan to around $200, representing a decline of roughly 99.5%.

“As urban traffic environments become increasingly complex, a single perception solution can no longer meet the demands for higher-level riding safety and intelligence,” said Li Yan, Chief Executive of Niu Technologies.

Hesai Chief Executive Li Yifan said the collaboration represents a step forward for the industry. “This partnership sets a new intelligence standard for the two-wheeler sector and marks a step toward a safer and smarter future for urban mobility,” he said.

LiDAR technology was previously limited to high-end electric vehicles, but its adoption has accelerated as costs decline. Hesai noted that LiDAR penetration in the passenger car market reached 19% by the end of 2025, indicating growing mainstream acceptance.

The expansion of LiDAR into electric two-wheelers highlights increasing convergence between automotive and micromobility technologies, as manufacturers seek to enhance safety and intelligence across a wider range of vehicles.
