NIO has introduced its NIO ET5 electric car technology as a major competitor to the Tesla Model 3.

ET5 was launched at the NIO Day 2021 event held in Suzhou. The NIO ET5 will fill the market previously dominated by the Tesla Model 3 and is planned to start greeting consumers in September 2022.

Quoting from Carscoops and the official NIO release, the NIO ET5 has dimensions of 4,790 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, 1,499 mm in height and a wheelbase of 2,888 mm.

When compared to the Tesla Model 3, the NIO ET5 has a larger wheelbase and body.

Looking at the exterior appearance, the NIO ET5 takes a lot of design inspiration from its older brother, the NIO ET7.

Of course, the ET5 design also integrates NIO Aquila Super Sensing sensors for the NIO Autonomous Driving (NAD) autonomous driving feature.

Not only the exterior, the ET5’s interior also follows a similar design to the NIO ET7 including the use of environmentally friendly materials.

Then how about the performance? The NIO ET5 is equipped with two electric motors that drive All-Wheel Drive (AWD), each producing 150 kW or 204 hp and 210 kW or 285 hp, respectively.

In combination, the two ET5 electric motors produce 360 kW or 489 hp and 700 Nm of torque.

NIO claims the ET5 can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds in Sport+ mode.

NIO provides the ET5 with three battery options, the smallest, NIO offers the ET5 with a Standard Range battery with a capacity of 75 kWh which is claimed to be able to travel more than 550 kilometers according to China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) standards.

On top of the Standard Range battery are the Long Range 100 kWh and Ultra Long Range 150 kWh batteries which have claimed ranges of over 700 km and over 1,000 kilometers, respectively.

Of course the most interesting thing about the ET5 battery is that the owner can charge it or exchange it at NIO’s Battery Swapping Station. NIO ET5 is priced starting at 328,000 yuan
