Polish manufacturer Solaris Bus & Coach has unveiled the Urbino 10.5 Electric, a new compact battery-electric city bus that combines advanced technology with urban efficiency. Making its debut at Busworld 2024 in Brussels, the 10.5-metre-long model joins the company’s growing Urbino family and is designed to offer high manoeuvrability, long range, and sustainable operation in dense city environments.

The Urbino 10.5 Electric is equipped with Solaris’ modular drive system and features a 240 kW synchronous motor at its core. Depending on configuration, the bus is powered by high-energy batteries with a capacity of approximately 350 kWh, with larger options exceeding 400 kWh also available. The new model is expected to deliver a range of up to 600 kilometres, based on the E-SORT (Electric Bus Standardised On-Road Test) cycle, though Solaris did not specify whether this range applies to the standard or extended battery configuration.

Charging options include both plug-in and pantograph systems, offering flexibility for various urban charging infrastructures. The company did not reveal specific charging capacities but stated that the modular layout of the drivetrain allows optimal placement of batteries on the roof while maintaining interior space.

Inside, the Urbino 10.5 Electric can accommodate up to 85 passengers, including 33 seated, depending on battery configuration. The model includes a CO₂ heat pump air conditioning system, an advanced driver assistance package, and the optional Mirror Eye system, which replaces conventional mirrors with cameras for better visibility and aerodynamics. Solaris also highlights that the bus achieves a recyclability rate of nearly 97%, underscoring its commitment to environmental sustainability.

The new bus is part of Solaris’ effort to expand its lineup of compact zero-emission vehicles. It follows the Urbino 12 Electric, updated in 2024 with a 600 kWh battery and a comparable 600 km range. The Polish supplier ICPT continues to provide battery systems for the Urbino lineup, while the battery cells themselves are sourced from CATL, under a long-term supply agreement established in 2022.

With the introduction of the Urbino 10.5 Electric, Solaris now claims to offer the widest zero-emission bus portfolio in Europe, covering battery-electric, hydrogen, and trolleybus models ranging from 9 to 24 metres in length. Alongside the new model, Solaris showcased its flagship Urbino 12 Electric and Urbino 18 Hydrogen buses at its Busworld stand in Brussels.
