Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska Metropolia (GZM), the metropolitan authority serving Upper Silesia in southern Poland, has taken delivery of 31 Irizar ie electric buses to expand zero-emission public transport services across the region.
Electric Fleet Delivered for Regional Operations
The new fleet, presented in July 2026, comprises 16 articulated 18-meter buses and 15 standard 12-meter electric buses.

Supplied by Irizar e-mobility, the electric vehicle division of Spanish manufacturer Irizar, the buses are expected to enter passenger service shortly after their official presentation.
GZM oversees public transportation across several municipalities in Upper Silesia, including Sosnowiec, Świerklaniec, Katowice, and Gliwice.
Supporting Different Route Requirements
The mixed fleet is intended to provide greater operational flexibility across the metropolitan transport network.
The articulated 18-meter buses are designed for higher-capacity routes with heavier passenger demand, while the 12-meter vehicles will operate on services with lower ridership requirements.
All 31 buses are fully electric, eliminating direct tailpipe emissions during operation.

Expanding Zero-Emission Public Transport
The delivery reflects continued investment in electric public transportation across Central and Eastern Europe, where municipalities are increasingly replacing diesel fleets with battery-electric vehicles.
The transition has been supported by European Union decarbonization policies and regional funding programs aimed at reducing transport-related emissions.
For GZM, the acquisition represents another step in its broader strategy to expand zero-emission public transport across one of Poland’s most densely populated metropolitan regions while modernizing services for passengers.
