Great Wall Motor’s (HKG: 2333) electric vehicle brand Ora will unveil its first electric SUV, the Ora 5, on September 25, signaling a renewed push in the EV segment after a period of limited product launches.
Ora confirmed the official name of the model ahead of its debut at an event scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Beijing time. Promotional materials suggest the Ora 5 will be positioned to serve urban mobility needs and is expected to play a key role in the brand’s entry into overseas markets.
Regulatory filings from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology list the Ora 5, previously referred to as the Ora Cat, with dimensions of 4,471 mm in length, 1,833/1,844 mm in width, and 1,641 mm in height, along with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm. The vehicle will be equipped with a single electric motor rated at 150 kW, a curb weight of 1,540 to 1,655 kg, and a top speed of 170 km/h.
Ora was first launched in 2018 to target the compact EV segment priced under RMB 100,000 ($14,060). However, the brand has not released any all-new models for more than two years, with sales reaching 5,223 units in August.
In June, Great Wall Motor outlined a strategy to revive the Ora brand during a dealer meeting in Baoding, Hebei province. The company announced plans to re-establish independent sales channels and previewed four upcoming Ora vehicles, including SUVs and a sedan-crossover hybrid. The Ora 5 is expected to spearhead this new product cycle as the brand broadens its appeal beyond its original focus on female consumers.
