Great Wall Motor’s electric vehicle marque Ora has introduced its first SUV, the Ora 5, marking a return to new product launches after more than two years of limited activity in China’s competitive EV market. The unveiling comes as the company seeks to reinvigorate the Ora brand and expand its offerings beyond compact sedans and hatchbacks.

The Ora 5 adopts a conventional SUV design language while retaining styling cues from earlier Ora models such as the Good Cat, with similar detailing at the front and rear. The compact SUV measures 4,471 mm in length, 1,833–1,844 mm in width, and 1,641 mm in height, supported by a 2,720 mm wheelbase.

It is equipped with a single electric motor producing 150 kW of peak power, enabling a top speed of 170 km/h. Depending on the configuration, the model’s curb weight ranges between 1,540 and 1,655 kilograms. The SUV will be available in five exterior colors—gray, white, red, blue, and beige—paired with three interior themes: white, brown, and gray.

A key feature of the Ora 5 is a LiDAR unit mounted on the roof, suggesting the model will offer more advanced driver assistance functions compared with Ora’s existing portfolio. However, details regarding launch timing, battery range, and pricing have not yet been disclosed.

The Ora brand, established in 2018, initially targeted the sub-RMB 100,000 compact EV market and has since built a lineup including the Good Cat, Good Cat GT, Lightning Cat, and Ballet Cat. In August, Ora recorded sales of 5,223 units across these models.

The brand has faced slowing momentum, with no fresh product launches in more than two years, a factor that industry analysts say has left it trailing faster-moving rivals in China’s EV sector.

Great Wall has signaled renewed focus on Ora’s development. In June, the automaker convened a dealer strategy meeting in Baoding, Hebei province, outlining a brand revival that included rebuilding Ora’s independent sales channel. At the meeting, the company previewed four upcoming models, including multiple SUVs.
