Nvidia Thor-U Powers Updated Driver Assistance
Tank said the 2027 model incorporates 296 upgrades across hardware, software and safety redundancy, with particular attention to driver assistance and the in-cabin experience.
The Hi4-T Zhixiang and Hi4-Z Zhixiang editions feature GWM’s Coffee Pilot 4 driver-assistance system, which combines Nvidia’s Thor-U computing chip with a Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model and LiDAR sensors.
The system provides 700 TOPS of computing power. Its sensor package comprises one LiDAR unit, three millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars and 11 cameras.
This represents a hardware and software upgrade over the higher-specification plug-in hybrid variants introduced in August 2025, which used Nvidia’s Orin-X chip and the third-generation Coffee Pilot Ultra system.
The new Zhixiang editions support navigation-assisted driving on urban roads and highways, parking-space-to-parking-space assisted driving, and voice-controlled vehicle functions.
The entry-level Hi4-T and 3.0T gasoline models use the Coffee Pilot 2 system and do not include LiDAR, differentiating them from the more advanced plug-in hybrid versions.
Cabin Upgrades Add Comfort and Entertainment Features
The updated Tank 500 receives several interior enhancements intended to improve passenger comfort and in-car entertainment.
Features include dual 15.6-inch displays, a 22-speaker audio system, electrically folding front leg rests, rear tray tables and a bed mode.
The changes expand the SUV’s cabin functionality while preserving the model’s focus on long-distance travel and off-road use.
Plug-In Hybrid Powertrains Remain Unchanged
The Hi4-T and Hi4-Z plug-in hybrid systems retain their existing configurations.
The Hi4-T pairs a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with a single electric motor and a nine-speed 9HAT transmission. Its combined system output is 310 kW, equivalent to 416 hp. The configuration is designed with an emphasis on off-road driving.
It uses a 37.1-kWh battery and has a claimed WLTC electric driving range of 110 km.
The Hi4-Z combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with two electric motors and a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. Its combined system output reaches 635 kW, while a 59.05-kWh battery provides a claimed WLTC electric range of 201 km.
Both plug-in hybrid systems retain the battery capacities and electric ranges of their August 2025 versions. The 2027 update therefore concentrates on driver assistance, cabin equipment and safety-related improvements rather than changes to the core electrified powertrains.
The continued availability of a 3.0T gasoline model alongside two plug-in hybrid configurations gives buyers a choice between conventional and electrified powertrains, with seating capacity also varying by version.
